Hand-carved boxwood bead inspired by the antique Japanese Ojime. Ojime are the sliding beads on the cord of the Inro Box. Geishas carried an Inro Box to hold their money and personal necessities.
This is a set of three ojime beads: Hear-No-Evil, See-No-Evil, and Speak-No-Evil Monkeys. The design is Japanese where the proverb is regarded as a Japanese Golden Rule, the three monkeys symbolize choosing to do good, and have universal appeal. Including the string, the set measures 3 inches long. On average, the beads measure 16mm by 25mm with a 1.5mm hold drilled through the center.
This Ojime bead was hand-carved by a contemporary Chinese Master-Carver (not a child), who took up to as long as four hours to make it. It is 18mm by 22mm and vertically-drilled. This is an unbelievable value for such craftsmanship.
