Sea Turtle bead that was hand-carved from boxwood inspired by the antique Japanese Ojime. Ojime are the sliding beads on the cord of the Inro Box. Geishas carried an Inro Box to hold their money and personal necessities. An Ojime bead is a Japanese bead or geisha bead that was used with an inro box and a netsuke bead.
This Ojime bead was carved by a contemporary Chinese Master-Carver (not a child), who took up to as long as four hours to make it. This hand carved bead is 3/4 inch wide and 1 inch high and vertically-drilled. This is an unbelievable value for such craftsmanship.
Sea Turtle meaning:
Sea turtles live all over the world, especially near tropical seas and oceans. Consequently, they are symbolically part of many cultures in their mythology. Sea turtles frequently represent the wisdom of old age, endurance, tirelessness, old souls, harmony, peace, longevity, grace, serenity and immortality. They lived so long that some ancient cultures believed they did not die unless hunted or killed in an accident. They are also seen as a sign of good fortune and that is why you see sea turtle amulets and sea turtle fetishes and sea turtle pendants in so many coastal regions.
