Silverplated cast beetle. The Egyptians observed these beetles suddenly appearing on a pile of dung and believed them to incarnate spontaneously from Spirit. Dung Beetles are born in the dung and make their way to the surface seeming to appear out of thin air. They also saw them rolling balls of dung across the land and burying it and believed them to be gods in charge of life and death (not to mention excrement). They were considered sacred and worshipped as protectors and capable of granting prayers of regeneration and prosperous rebirth. A little over three ounces in weight, they are heavy enough to use as a paperweight.
