Sterling Silver-plated pewter sea scallop shell charm.  As with most TierraCast charms (pewter), this is a lead-free pewter charm.  It measures .69 inch long by .72 inch wide or 17mm long by 17.7mm wide.

The scallop is associated with three meanings.

In Christianity, a scallop shell represents calling for the water needed for a baptism.  A priest might use a scallop shaped water dish for pouring water during a baptism.

The scallop shell pointed the pilgrims to Santiago.  It was worn as an emblem of camaraderie in making the journey.

And lastly, a scallop shell was the vehicle for Aphrodite.  She is the Greek goddess of love and beauty.  As she arose from the unconscious of the ocean, elevating through the sea form and arriving on the shores of the island of Cyprus, she stood upon as scallop shell as she rose up from the ocean into the consciousness of air and light.

Great gift for a friend or family member who collects sterling silver seashell charms.
