Lapis Lazuli meaning:
Lapis Lazuli is known as lapis for short. It is a semi-precious stone. The death mask of the 18th dynasty ancient Egyptian young pharaoh Tutankhamun had Lapis Lazuli on it.
The Europeans ground it up into a powder once they got it at the end of the Middle Ages. As a powder it could used as blue pigment and was used by the biggest artist during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. It's the ingredient of ultramarine oil paint.
