Tiger's eye is a metamorphic rock with a crystalline structure formed by the parallel inter-growth of quartz crystals and altered amphibole fibers crocidolite.
These parallel fibers create the gemstone's characteristic chatoyancy - cat's eye effect - while the iron inclusions in the fibers give Tiger's Eye its golden to red-brown color.
The fibrous structure of the crocidolite has been replaced by quartz through a process called pseudomorphism where the quartz assumes the form of the original mineral.
