This vase is super elegant. The glaze is silky smooth. It has been hand-case from a hand-carved mold .
I would describe it as shapely . The vase measures 2.51 inches in diameter by 6.5 inches high. It holds 1/2 cup or 4 ounces of water. The opening (3rd photo) narrows down to a quarter of an inch. Still, as you can see in the 2nd photo, you can display about five or six stems.
Celadon color is the name for the shade of green glaze used on the porcelain. There are a few theories as to the origin of the term.
1) It is a French term from the 1600's given in favor of a shepherd of the same name who wore ribbons that were pale green in a book called L'Astrée (1627).
2) The term comes from a Ayyubid sultan who sent 40 pieces of pale green ceramic to another sultan in Syria in 1171.
3) There is a Sanskrit term, sila-dhara, which means green stone.
