Beetle Wing Earrings that move and dangle.
The Sternaceras Echisinata Beetle lives a sacred life in the hills of Thailand. The ancient tribes, believed to have migrated to Thailand from Tibet, saw the presence of these iridescent green beetles as a sign of good luck, long life, fertility, abundance, and spiritual protection. The wings are metallic-like and protect the bug’s soft body.
These green beetle earrings are surprisingly light-weight and durable. You can imagine how light they have to be for the beetle to be able to fly. We are buying these earrings from fair-trade Thai artisans. Real beetle earrings may seem like an odd gift, but people seem to love them. They could make a lovely gift for yourself.
After the beetles have reproduced and died naturally, their bodies are gathered and their wings are used to decorate the robes of shamans.
Now, they decorate ritual clothing for everyone, especially the ladies ornate headdresses and hems of shawls. They are also presented as gifts that invite prosperity and spiritual protection.
Since these are made with actual wings, some of the tips of the wings are slightly chipped.
