Each of the 12 zodiac signs is 30°. The 30° are then subdivided into three 10° portions. Those thirds of the sign are called decans. Zero to nine degrees represents the first decan of the sign. Ten to nineteen degrees represents the second decan of the sign. Twenty to twenty-nine degrees represents the third decan of the sign.
