Tarot

In the 1400's, tarot cards showed up in Europe and were called trionfi.  Then they got renamed tarocchi, then tarock.  Tarocchini was a game in Italy.  The French called the game tarot.   In Austria, they called the game Konigrufen.

In the 1700's, it was trendy to get a tarot card reading.  Artists started to redesign decks so that they would be more of a spiritual tool for divination.

The Tarot, pronounced "tear-row" as the final "t" is silent.  It is a deck of cards similar to playing cards.  There are four suits of numbered cards one through ten plus royalty cards.  These four suits comprise the minor arcana.  There are also 21 cards that are the keys to understanding the meaning of life.  Those 21 cards are called the major arcana.  The 21 cards represent the primal aspects of spirit, such as magic, process, growth, organization, exploration, partnership, the feminine, the masculine, etc.
